Luobing Pan

Luobing Pan is a senior undergraduate filmmaker/dancer majoring in Film and Television. Her thesis project is a narrative short film, titled “Diana,” about the struggle a Chinese transwoman experiences after she moves to the United States through a visa marriage. The story is a fictional collage of various sources rooted in reality and a meditation upon the intersectionality of experiences lived by a transgender immigrant from China. As a queer filmmaker from China, Luobing understands a film like this can be extremely difficult to make and be seen in her motherland because of the censorship of queer subjects. Under the influence of her best friend in China, a transfemme artist, Luobing feels the need to tell a story like “Diana” to enrich media representation of Chinese transwomen on screen.
