Tyra Lee Kristiansen
Tyra Lee Kristiansen is a fourth year English major that transferred to UCLA from Glendale Community College. She is currently working on her departmental English honors senior thesis. Tyra Lee decided to pursue undergraduate research after her experience in the Academic Advancement Program’s Transfer Summer Program where she was exposed to the various research opportunities on campus. Her love of Science Fiction and popular culture lead her to her research project exploring concepts of posthumanism in the television series Orphan Black. In her research she asks how the representations of cloning and the tone of the show critique and further Donna Haraway’s cyborg theory and other posthumanist thought towards productive coalition formation that does not adhere to oppressive exclusionary practices. After Tyra Lee graduates from UCLA she plans on pursuing a PhD in English, focusing on Chicanafuturisms, combining her interests in Speculative Fiction and Chicana/o Literature.
