Lilah Peck

Lilah Peck is a third-year Theater major with a minor in Professional Writing. In her research, she will explore the global popularity of the plays by Israeli playwright Hanoch Levin (dates). Despite being ridiculed by the government for his anti-nationalist critiques, Levin remains to be produced frequently both in Israel and abroad: his plays have been staged in over thirty countries and translated into over twenty languages, with overwhelming popularity in Poland. This research will investigate how the plays of the Israeli playwright Hanoch Levin change, both in subject and style, when presented on the Polish stage. This research will examine what explains Levin’s widespread popularity in Poland, as well as the ways in which Levin’s anti-nationalist sentiments relate to those within Poland’s political and theatrical context. With mounting unrest toward both the Polish and Israeli governments, 2024 presents a compelling time to evaluate the role of political art forms, their legacy, and their transience, as well as the value of global theatrical exchange. Lilah hopes to continue academic research in pursuit of studies in dramaturgy, literary analysis, or anthropology, in addition to involving herself in community-based non-profits.
