Joseph Matveyenko

Joseph Matveyenko is a fourth-year Political Science and Russian Studies double major. He was drawn to his interest in the political economy of Eastern Europe and Central Asia as a child of immigrants who fled the former Soviet Union. His thesis uses methods of election forensics to analyze national elections in the post-Soviet space and redefines the concept of incumbent advantage in the context of Eurasian elections tainted by the abuse of administrative resources. Joseph seeks to offer new statistical methodologies that can complement in-person election monitoring to objectively identify manipulation. He hopes that his research will contribute to a growing literature on detecting election fraud and help promote principles of election integrity internationally.
