Daisy Ramirez
Daisy Ramirez is a fourth-year majoring in Psychology with a minor in Education and Disabilities Studies. With the mentorship from Dr. Anna Lau and Blanche Wright, her independent project will examine Latinx youth development and incorporate the knowledge gained from her major and minors. Her research project is inspired by her personal background. Both of Daisy’s parents immigrated to the United States in hopes of giving their children better economic and educational opportunities than they could have in their home state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Her project investigates variables such as child nativity status (i.e., first generation American, second generation American), parent-child acculturation gaps, family conflict, depression, and sleep patterns, to determine what effects (if any) these variables have on children’s educational achievements. Daisy’s research utilizes data from the publicly available dataset from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. The Ingram and Wasserman scholarships are supporting her academic career as a first-generation Latina student and young researcher. Daisy’s long-term goal is to complete a doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.
