Lucero Sanchez

Lucero is a thirdyear international student from Peru majoring in Geography and International Development Studies and minoring in Geographic Information Systems. Her research interests focus on the experiences of mobility of marginalized individuals through different sociospatial contexts. In fact, as a Mellon Mays fellow, she is conveying a project on the experiences of mobility and immobility of Transwomen in Los Angeles. While bringing attention to personal testimonies and geo narratives, her project analyzes how this community has constructed spaces of safety and resistance against violence and discrimination within a heteronormative society. By being committed to social justice research, Lucero aims to collaborate with the Trans community to make this research project a resource for the advocacy for trans rights. She expects her project contributes to the mobility literature in making the right to city a common right for everyone. Lucero would like to continue her work by doing a Ph.D. in Urban Planning in the future.
