Alayssia Unique Townsell

Alayssia Townsell is a fourth-year Public Affairs major born and raised in Stockton, Ca. She is an activist and is currently interning at Los Angeles City Hall. Alayssia conducts research alongside Professor Ananya Roy and a research team consisting of UCLA Masters students and Ph.D. Candidates. They study the new spatial justice governance of poverty in Los Angeles following the recent ban on homeless encampments at Echo Park Lake. The research team works with community members who are currently experiencing homelessness or have once before. Through ethnographic and spatial justice research and using data analysis, the team explores ways to address urgent issues pertaining to social and spatial justice in Los Angeles.
