Muriel Fayemi
Muriel Fayemi is a fourth–year Political Science major, with a concentration in international relations, and a minor in French. Her thesis studies digital authoritarianism, an authoritarian regime’s strategic use of technology to influence domestic and international populations. Muriel participated in Research Revealed in the spring of 2022 and developed the idea for her project at this time. She is specifically interested in China’s motivation for exporting surveillance technology, and the impact of China’s actions on the recipient countries. She hopes that studying digital authoritarianism will allow scholars to have a better understanding of China’s long–term political goals. After graduation, Muriel intends to receive a master’s in international relations and pursue a career in foreign policy research.
