Sophia (Han-Yun) Chang

Sophia (HanYun) Chang is a senior student at UCLA majoring in Sociology. She is completing her honors thesis about mediated social interactions on mass media, particularly the cancel culture and polarized culture on Twitter. Her study aims to discover the nuance of mediated social interaction in political engagement, which hopes to contribute to the existing scholarship on the influence of social media on social justice.

As an international student from Taiwan, Sophia was inspired by social justice discourse in the U.S. to study race. This year, she completed quantitative research comparing genderbased and racebased affirmative action attitudes. Given her passion for social science research, she hopes to pursue graduate studies in Sociology upon graduation.
