Roopa Ravishankar
Roopa Ravishankar is a junior majoring in Mathematics/Economics with a minor in Accounting. Her study investigates the impact of social media on investment behavior. Given the prevalence of social media and the increasing accessibility to online investment platforms, wants to test whether investment decisions are influenced by recommendations on social media. She believes that the extent of influence of social media will be negatively correlated to the level of financial literacy of the investor. To test this hypothesis, she plans to survey individuals to assess their financial literacy and to learn about their reactions to potential stimuli on social media as related to their investment decisions. Based on the results, she hopes to identify policy implications that can help to protect naïve investors from making impulsive decisions. After graduation, her plan is to join a doctoral program in economics to further investigate how policy decisions can help to bring equity in society
