Ngoc Nguyen
Ngoc Nguyen is a senior majoring in International Development Studies, Asian American Studies, and Sociology. As a Fellow of the Undergraduate Research Fellow Program in 2019, Ngoc conducted a research project under the guidance of Professor Lee Ann Wang on the impact of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) on the Southeast Asian American community in the United States. Now, she is working on her honor senior thesis as a part of the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program under the guidance of Professor Jennifer Chun. Her thesis focuses on the role of grassroots organizing in the El Monte Thai Garment Worker case and strategies that community organizations used to demand justice for the workers. Through this project, she hopes to bring light to challenges that the Thai workers experienced and promote integral dialogues about how grassroots organizing can advocate for effective change.
