Emily Chen Taing

Emily Taing is a senior Asian American Studies and International Development Studies double major completing a departmental Asian American Studies honors thesis focusing on the Cambodian American community. She is researching post Khmer Rouge trauma, and community resilience among first, 1.5 and second generation Cambodian women. She is deeply interested in the refugee experience and the impact of Southeast Asian diaspora. During the summer of 2016 she conducted a 2-month research project at the Center for Khmer Studies in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Her research focused on how NGOs were combating sex trafficking through economic (re)assimilation programs. Emily seeks to pursue a MA in International Development followed by a JD in the United States, and she aspires to become an international business, public interest, and human rights lawyer.
