Theresa Ding
Theresa Ding is pursuing a B.A. in History with an interest in modern Chinese history. Her research focuses on the changing expectation placed on women due to the Marriage Reform Movement in China’s Republican Era, specifically the different values that different factions used to define marriage and gender roles at the time. She plans to do so by examining the representation of women in literary works, and comparing the female characters of the Mandarin Ducks and Butterflies genre of popular fiction with those of the radically political May 4th genre. Her research aims to contribute to a better understanding of Chinese policies and expectations towards women in the early 20th century. She is currently planning on pursuing a higher degree in history after graduating.
