Amy Cummings is a senior in the Gender Studies department at UCLA, with research interests in pop culture and history of gender and sexuality in the U.S. In addition to pursuing the Gender Studies BA, Amy is a member of an on-campus student theater group and the campus radio station, and is working on a departmental honors thesis for the URSP program. Her thesis will concern the rich and controversial history of Cosmopolitan magazine and the messages has sent to women about sex and sexuality for the last two decades. This qualitative study will combine a historical approach with feminist and sociological research to produce new knowledge on the magazine with the highest readership of women in the world. In the future, Amy plans to pursue a career that will integrate her passion for research with media production.
