Jonathan Valenzuela Mejia

Jonathan Valenzuela Mejia is a fourth-year Global Studies and Public Affairs double major with minors in Central American Studies and Environmental Systems and Society completing a thesis as a part of Departmental Honors for the Global Studies major. His thesis looks to explore the growing Central American immigrant community and the development of this community in Western Europe. Jonathan had the opportunity to study abroad in France and explored cultures both from in and out of Europe, which alongside his Guatemalan roots inspired him to explore this topic further. With his research, Jonathan hopes to honor and highlight the resilience of Central Americans as they immigrate and establish communities around the world. On campus, Jonathan serves as the third General Representative for the USAC student government, in addition to being the Managing Editor for La Gente Newsmagazine and the Co-Treasurer of Grupo Folklorico de UCLA. After graduation, Jonathan hopes to attend law school with the hopes of becoming an international/immigration lawyer.
