Chanaporn (New) Tohsuwanwanich

Chanaporn (New) Tohsuwanwanich is a third-year Geography major with Geographic Information Systems and Technologies (GIS&T) minor and Urban and Regional Studies minor. With her passion for urban planning and housing policy, she has been interested in how to provide affordable housing for all, and a case study of Thailand, where she grew up, captured her interest. Her honor thesis investigates the systemic challenges within the Baan Mankong program, a low-income community housing upgrading project, that inhibit the fullest participation and the sustainability of the housing policy. The micro-community “Sarn Jao Por Sri Somboon,” one of the canal redevelopment projects, represents the struggles of the smaller communities that participate in the projects while also giving a closer perspective on the questions of sustainability in the Baan Mankong program. Throughout the interviews and field data collection, she hopes to advance the implementation of Baan Mankong to continuously support affordable housing for economically disadvantaged neighborhoods
