Victor Xie

Victor Xie is a fourth year English and Asian American Studies major from San Jose, California interested in studying the intersections of queerness, memory, and empire. His research explores the historical amnesia of the Cultural Revolution and its aftermath among the Chinese American community. While many scholars have written on the Chinese government’s manufactured forgetting of the Cultural Revolution, few have studied how the United States encourages simplistic narratives from the Chinese American community to push forward an imperialist agenda. Using a combination of archival research and literary analysis, he hopes to gain a more complex, sincere understanding of the Cultural Revolution and how its hauntings may generate a more productive and progressive politics not tied to nationalism. Outside of research, Victor is involved with the Asian Pacific Coalition, the Asian American Studies Department, and the Asian American Studies Center. After graduation, he intends to pursue a graduate degree in Ethnic Studies.
