Mollie Brown

Mollie Brown is a fourth-year transfer student, majoring in History and minoring in Russian Literature. Mollie’s project with the URSP is her thesis with the Department of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Languages and Cultures. Her research explores the period of the Great Reforms in Russian history, dating roughly from the early 1860s to the late 1880s, and the literary criticisms of the legal changes made in the region at the time. Mollie focuses specifically on the paternal relationships created in the works of Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Turgenev. With the help of relevant secondary research, she analyzes the bonds between these specific characters as a critique of the failed paternalistic policies of the Russian government. Outside of research, Mollie is just as passionate about reading, and she is a member of her local League of Women Voters book club. Mollie also participates in the College Honors program, is a member of the Bruin Democrats club, and is looking forward to soon joining the Bruin Film Society.
