Maya Ram

Maya is a fourth-year World Arts and Cultures Major and Public Health
Minor. Maya has a deep appreciation for her service experiences at UCLA, especially her involvement with Alternative Breaks. Through this program, she has spent two spring breaks in San Francisco expanding her perspective on the social determinants of health and healthcare access in marginalized and minoritized communities. In addition to her work with service-learning, she works with the UCLA Art & Global Health Center’s Sex Squad program,
focusing specifically on High School Sex Squads, which engage high school students in art-making and storytelling surrounding topics of sexual health. Her interest in the High School Sex Squad program inspired her research looking into the impacts of the program on students involved. Maya also serves as a GRIT Peer Coach through the Bruin Resource Center, which has
fostered her passion for promoting self-care, mindful living, and well-being within the UCLA community. In the future, Maya hopes to continue learning from personal narratives in order to foster healing, empathy, and justice in her communities.
