Lourdes Gonzalez

Lourdes D. Gonzalez is a second-year transfer senior majoring in Gender Studies and minoring in Education at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), she will be graduating in June 2013. Her passion for social justice began during her academic career at Pasadena City College, after she took two courses on; unequal education, and women in American society. Lourdes recognized her interest for research after she took an introductory course to research the summer before she began UCLA and during the Academic Advancement Program (AAP) Transfer Summer Program (TSP). She realized that teaching and research is one of the most powerful ways to fight inequalities in America. Lourdes is applying to graduate programs and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Higher Education next fall in which she will focus her research on education inequities that affect Latinos in the U.S. Her work in education will have a unique feminist lens application as she investigates the way educational trajectories affect Latinos based on gender, race, and class.
