Julia Nakamura

Julia Nakamura is a fourth-year Psychobiology and Gerontology student pursuing Latin, College, and Departmental Honors. Julia is interested in the biobehavioral processes that promote mental and physical health in older adults. Julia has done most of her research in Dr. Julienne Bower’s Mind-Body Lab under the direction of Dr. Kate Kuhlman, studying the effects of childhood adversity on biological and behavioral responses to psychological stress. She was accepted into the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program, through which she undertook an individual project characterizing the association between childhood adversity and peripheral inflammation and presented her findings at a national conference, during her sophomore year. For her senior thesis, Julia is assessing the role of social support in the association between early-life stress, depression, and inflammation in older adults. After graduation, Julia will pursue a PhD in Health Psychology with the long-term goal of obtaining a faculty position at a research university.
