Gabriela Ruth Forter
Gabriela Forter is a fourth-year Global Studies student minoring in Entrepreneurship and pursuing both college and departmental senior thesis honors. She has been conducting research for several years now, first as a Research Rookie through AAP, followed by a year in the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program, culminating as a proud recipient of the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program Award. Her current research interests focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and how businesses can improve performance in the long run by meeting the double bottom line—fiscal performance and positive social impact. She is conducting her senior thesis under the mentorship of Professor Charles Corbett, a professor of operations management and sustainability at the UCLA Anderson School of Management; he holds a joint appointment at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. Gabriela used her URFP award to travel to Guatemala and conduct primary research on various coffee farms and distribution networks, gaining first-hand insight into the supply chain and operations dynamics of coffee production. Gabriela immerses herself in not only social science research, but also in physical sciences research, working as an assistant at the UCLA Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology. She helps physicians test the biological effects of mindfulness/meditation on the immune system. Eager to challenge herself and put her versatile experience to use, Gabriela completed an investment banking internship with Wells Fargo Securities this past summer. After graduation, she plans to work full-time for Deloitte Consulting. She hopes to one day pioneer and champion responsible business practices with her own company.
