Entung Kuo

Entung Enya Kuo is a third year undergraduate student studying psychology and political science. Her research with Dr. David Sears and Dr. Ivy Onyeador aims to examine the ways that perceptions of discrimination along the axes of racial triangulation affect Asian Americans’ intergroup and policy attitudes. Asian Americans experience discrimination in terms of 1) “model minority” myths; 2) “perpetual foreigner” stereotypes that Latinos also face; and 3) more traditional forms of derogatory discrimination that Blacks and Latinos also face. Because shared experiences of discrimination can lead to intraminority coalition or derogation, this project will investigate how priming Asian Americans with these three types of discrimination may affect, for example, their perceived similarity with Blacks and Latinos and support for policies such as affirmative action. By exploring the contexts in which Asian Americans may feel solidarity with other racial minority groups, this project can inform strategies for intraminority efforts to address bias and discrimination against people of color generally. Enya is incredibly grateful to Dr. Sears and Dr. Onyeador for their continued guidance and support on this project as well as their mentorship in her undergraduate research endeavors.
