Emily Luong

Emily Luong is a fourth-year Communication major, double minoring in Labor Studies and History. She was born and raised in San Jose, California. At UCLA, she is involved in student government and community organizing, serving as the Internal Vice President of the Undergraduate Students Association Council, Internal Associate Director of the Southeast Asian Students for Organizing Conference, and core organizer within the No UCPD Coalition. Practicing and strengthening cross-community unity and solidarity has been at the center of her work in the Southeast Asian community, which sparked her research interest in the intersection between language, culture, and interracial conflicts and solidarities. Her project investigates Asian American appropriation of African American Vernacular English and its impact on the potential for Black-Asian solidarity in contemporary movements for racial justice. Following graduation, Emily hopes to pursue a dual degree in law and public policy.
