Ashley Tran
/by amelia boehAshley Tran is a fourth-year undergraduate majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Global Health. She conducts research through the Lemelson Anthropological Honors Program. Her thesis centers on Vietnamese immigrant women working in San Francisco nail salons. Through ethnographic methods such as person-centered interviewing and participant observation, Ashley examines how Vietnamese immigrant women shift as well as reinforce various aspects of their identity in relation to their work. Further, she hopes this research will contribute to the existing body of literature on the Vietnamese diaspora and their discourses of culture and belonging. Ashley’s post-graduation plans are to attend medical school and become a family medicine physician.
