Alice Zheng
Alice Zheng is a fourth-year English major with a creative writing concentration in poetry and a minor in film. Her creative thesis is a hybrid genre collection of poetry and personal essays exploring topics of displacement, nostalgia, bilingualism, and cross-cultural identity in the 21st century. The collection seeks to formulate a fluid narrative of her own journey, being native in Chinese and a writer in English. It will tackle questions such as what it means to write in an adopted language, and, in particular, how it affects one’s identity and creativity. Having benefitted from Chinese and English literature alike, she is inspired to work in the sector of cross-cultural, multilingual, international literary arts community in the future. When not reading and writing, she plays and listens to music, watches reality show, and meditates on the ethics of being a romantic.
