Abigail Greydanus

Abigail Greydanus is a senior majoring in Psychology. She joined Dr. Tiffany Brannon’s, Culture and Contact Lab, as a research assistant in fall 2017, upon entering UCLA as a transfer student. The Culture and Contact Lab looks at cultural identities and how these can shape social interactions, as well as looking at how culture and social contact can shape traditionally negatively stereotyped identities. Abigail now works for the lab as a co-lab manager, in addition to the work she is doing in the lab on her honors thesis project. Abigail is using the knowledge she has gained working in CCL on past projects to formulate her own research question for her thesis and has designed and is conducting a study based on the concept of perspective taking. Her work will specifically be looking into utilizing intergroup cultural contact to promote positive feelings towards the transgender community. An especially important topic at a time when the transgender community is receiving a disproportionate share of prejudice, misunderstanding, and discrimination during their everyday lives.Upon graduating from UCLA, Abigail plans to attend graduate school for Psychology, with the goal of earning her PhD. She would like to work as a research scientist in the future and continue to look into solving problems and making connections between psychology and the world around us. Abigail would like to thank Dr. Brannon for her mentorship and guidance, as well as Kimberly Martin, for her direction and inspiration for Abigail’s study, as well as the whole Culture and Contact Lab for their encouragement and advice on her research endeavors.
