Cheryl Sun
Cheryl Sun is a fourth-year Psychology major and Statistics minor with an interest in clinical psychology and how diagnosis and treatment can be improved for individuals with mental illnesses. Her research focuses on overgeneralized memory that is commonly observed among individuals with depression. Overgeneralized memory refers to a memory bias where people tend to recall a general impression instead of a specific event when prompted. Cheryl will examine how this memory bias can be addressed though memory training and whether the training will improve memory accuracy for people with elevated depressive symptoms. Specifically, she will investigate the effect of depression severity on the memory training outcome. The research will provide insights about how depression evaluation may be modified to promote more accurate diagnosis. After completing undergraduate studies, Cheryl plans to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.
