Claire Smith

Claire Smith is an undergraduate student at UCLA majoring in Human Biology and Society (B.S.) and minoring in Professional Writing. She is an avid reader and writer and enjoys the ways in which these mediums allow for the intersection of storytelling and advocacy work. Claire serves as a Coordinator for the Mobile Clinic Project at UCLA – a student-run free clinic that provides medical and social services to folks experiencing homelessness in the Hollywood area. Through her involvement with the Mobile Clinic Project, Claire has become passionate about working to create safe, community-driven spaces that prioritize equity in the healthcare space. She believes that mental health care is a fundamental, and often overlooked, aspect of human health and resilience. Through the Undergraduate Research Scholarship Program, Claire is studying the efficacy of a Mindfulness Self Compassion (MSC) intervention in improving post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms for women recovering from Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Specifically, she is interested in this therapy’s application in helping victims of interpersonal violence. Claire hopes to learn how trauma-informed care models can be designed and implemented to help understand and improve the experiences of marginalized women.
