Biona Hui

Biona Hui is a fourth-year majoring in History from the San Francisco Bay Area. Her departmental honors thesis revolves around analyzing the evolution of classical Chinese medicine to what is known today as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) under the influence of Maoist China. Under the guidance of Professor Andrea Goldman, Biona’s research seeks to examine classical Chinese medical texts as well as 20th-century medical journals from “barefoot doctors” to understand the role of policy and cultural significance of TCM. Outside of her research, Biona is an advisor for Aleph, the undergraduate research journal for humanities and social sciences, as well as a writer and illustrator for the Daily Bruin. Currently, she is a research intern for the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai and hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
